Want Some Jazzadvice?

In private conversations during camps, I’ve been pretty lavish in my praise for the Jazzadvice blog.

It’s run by a couple young guys — Eric and Forrest — who studied with the late, great pianist Mulgrew Miller and have obviously deeply absorbed the master’s teachings.

Each post is full of wisdom about improvisation, some of it way too heavy lifting for me, but interesting nonetheless.

When I don’t fully absorb what they’re saying, it’s my fault because I only go halfway. To get better results, I realize I should actually do their suggested exercises rather than just read the advice and listen to those golden sound clips from some of the boys’ favorite improvisers.

So my advice is to campers is to subscribe to Jazzadvice and take all the advice, not just some.
